Stories from the road: Saugeen

Hey, Sabrina here!

Last week Alyssa and I were off to the Saugeen First Nation pow wow. We started out with our drive up to Port Elgin on Friday and checked in to a nice inn right along the water front. After settling in we had a bit of time to head down to the water and enjoy the beach.

Saturday we headed off to the pow wow and arrived nice and early. We were one of the first people there, and after picking a spot we found out we set up right beside River and his family. After getting caught up with them we watched Grand Entry and spoke to lots of people. We even started seeing some familiar faces from other pow wows. We also spent quite a bit of time doing the Builder, Engineer Communication activity with some young dancers. By the end of the weekend they were much better with their communication skills.

After the pow wow Alyssa and I got some dinner and then went back down to the beach to do some mini putting. After a very close game Alyssa managed to win by a few points.

The next day we were back at our booth to talk to some more people and after a pretty successful day we said our goodbyes and headed on home. Overall is was an awesome pow wow and it was nice to catch up with everyone. Thanks for having us!
