Electrical engineers design, develop and supervise the manufacture, installation, operation and maintenance of equipment, machines and systems involved in electricity generation and supply.

Electrical engineers may:

  • Plan and design power stations;
  • Develop electrical distribution grids for towns and cities;
  • Create new technologies such as hand-cranked radios for use in areas where there may not be any electricity.
In your community: 

Electricity is considered part of the basic infrastructure for a community. It helps to power water filtration, run businesses and bring heat to homes and schools. As an electrical engineer you could make sure the people in your community have access to the power they need to go about their daily lives.
