Examples:

Because "we are what we eat", food engineers monitor and enhance the way food is hygienically manufactured, processed, packaged and delivered to our families' dinner tables.

Food engineers are involved in:

  • Developing ways to preserve food longer
  • Inventing new cooking technologies such as high-powered pizza ovens
  • Improving food transportation vehicles like ice cream trucks
In your community:

How is food shipped to your community? What foods grown, gathered or hunted locally could be processed for sale elsewhere?

Food engineering is an appetizing career possibility. As a food engineer you could contribute to economic development by establishing a process for manufacturing and shipping local food stuff like dried berry tea, caribou jerky and smoked salmon to markets in other parts of the country and all around the world.
